My favorite new dress & bag for spring

Hi friends!  The calendar may still say February, but we've had some warm weather here lately and I've got spring fever!  I am ready to break out all the spring clothes and wanted to share my new favorite dress and bag for springtime and beyond.

I will start with this great dress that I love for a bunch of reasons.  First, it is affordable at only $46 (with free shipping) so it won't break the bank.  Second, it is a flattering cut with a nice crepe material that doesn't wrinkle easily and it comes in a bunch of color options.  And finally, one of the things I love most about the dress is it's versatility.

I have styled it here with colorful jewelry and some nude wedge sandals for a dressy casual look.  (Is that a thing...dressy casual?!?  If not, I am making it a thing!)  This would be perfect for a lunch with your girlfriends or a dinner out with your man.  You could also throw on some sneakers and a denim jacket over it for a casual look while out and about.  I also plan to wear this dress to work paired with a blazer and some heels.  The possibilities are endless!

And can we talk about this bag?!?  I LOVE it!  The style of it is very similar to a Chloe bag for a fraction of the designer bag price!  It is large enough to hold all my stuff, yet not too big that it is overwhelming.  The purse comes with a shoulder strap so you could wear it as a crossbody to keep your hands free.  That is always a great option for all the mamas who need to hold on to their little ones when they are out and about.  I really love the neutral blush color of the bag as well, as it goes with anything.  The bag also comes in two other great neutral shades: camel and light blue.  Finally, the price of this bag is $69 (with free shipping), so it is affordable and is great quality as well.

I had to share these great buys with you all, because I know ya'll love a good deal as much as I do!  For under $120, you can get a versatile dress and bag that can take you through springtime and beyond.  If you decide to buy either of these items, I would love to see a photo.  Feel free to send me an email or a DM on Instagram and let me know.  Also, if you have any ideas of topics you would like to see in future posts, please send them my way.  Thank you as always for reading Smart Southern Style.

Spring transition tops

Hi everyone!  I don't know about you all, but I am READY for spring and warmer temps!  However, I don't think I will be able to put away all of my sweaters and long sleeve tops for a little while longer.  As the seasons change, it is sometimes tough to figure out what to wear, don't you think?  If you are looking for ideas as the seasons transition,  I found a few tops that are 3/4 sleeve length and perfect as spring draws near.  In general, I think lightweight long sleeve tops and 3/4 sleeve tops are great options during this time of year.

The first choice I found is this pretty solid green top.  It has a flattering square neckline and full sleeves.  Here I paired it with some jeans, gold mules and a statement tassel necklace.  This shirt would also look fantastic with white denim!  You could pair this top with some shorts or a denim skirt as it gets warmer.  St. Patrick's Day will be here next month, and this shirt will be the perfect thing to wear so you don't get pinched!

This lightweight striped bell sleeve sweater is another great choice during this time of year.  The sweater has some grey and blush tones in it, so you could easily pair it with either of those colors.  I chose to wear it with this cute grey ruffle skirt and added some blush tassel earrings to bring out that color in the sweater.  As the temps rise, I plan to wear this sweater with some denim shorts and sandals for a more casual look.

And sticking with the bell sleeve trend, this navy and white striped top is SO fun and will be in heavy rotation this spring.   This top is so versatile!  I paired it with jeans, but will also wear it with white denim, and even red pants or shorts for 4th of July.  I love pairing navy with brighter colors, so I chose these bright fuchsia flats and some turquoise and fuchsia jewelry.  Navy and white also look great with gold, red, emerald green...the possibilities are endless!

I hope this post gave you a few ideas about tops to wear as we transition to spring.  I would love to hear if you decide to add any of these shirts to your wardrobe!  Feel free to comment below or send me an email.  As always, thank you so much for reading Smart Southern Style!

Valentine's Day Outfit Ideas

Very similar red dress here and here \\ Studded heels \\

Hi everyone! Can you believe we are already well in to February?!?  I feel like this year is flying!  Valentine’s Day will be here next week, so I wanted to share a few outfit ideas for you to wear on Love Day.  Whether you are spending the day with the man in your life or your favorite gal pals, it’s still a fun excuse to dress in some festive Valentine’s colors!  I love wearing red year round, so I’m all in for any occasion to wear that color!  And even if you aren’t a fan of wearing a lot of red or pink, there is still a way you can incorporate some of it into your outfit.

If you have plans for a nice dinner out, a pretty red dress is always a good option.  I chose one with ruffle sleeves, because as you may know, I LOVE a good ruffle sleeve!   I paired my dress with these pretty nude studded heels.  They are great dupes for the Valentino heels but only cost $70!  (They also come in black, so if you are looking for a sassy heel, you should definitely check them out.)  I love wearing red and leopard together, so I added this leopard clutch for a little pop.   Because my dress, shoes and purse are all fairly bold, I opted for more subtle gold jewelry.

A bold red dress isn’t for everyone, so a fun red or pink top is always a great way to add some Valentine’s colors to your outfit.  This red tee has the cutest flutter sleeves which make it a little dressier than your standard t-shirt.  I dressed it up with a statement necklace, some leopard heels and a fun jeweled bag.  If you have some or all of these pieces in your closet, you can pair them together and boom…you are ready for a fun night out!

More red/pink scarf options here, here and here

For those of you who may not be a fan of wearing red or pink clothes, there is still a way to add these colors to an outfit for Valentine’s Day.  I added a burgundy scarf and bag to this basic black dress to add some color.  You could easily take a black dress or top in your closet and add a colorful red or pink scarf and you are ready to go. I have linked a few scarf options above.

I hope this post was helpful in providing a little Valentine’s style inspiration.  If you end up wearing something you saw in this post, please send me an email or DM me a photo on Instagram or Facebook if you have one.  I’d love to see what you wore!  Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your loved ones!

Closet staples under $50

Hi everyone!  As I have said before, I am all about maximizing the items in my wardrobe.  If I find an item that can be worn multiple seasons throughout the year, I am all in! And if it is affordable, even better!  I have rounded up some closet staples that I regularly reach for in my closet. And, they are all under $50, so they won't break the bank!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen this tunic a few times.  It is a great basic, comes in a bunch of colors, runs true to size and is under $30.  It is long enough to wear with leggings and you can also tuck it in with jeans or even shorts or a skirt.  It is light weight, so I will wear it under a jacket or cardigan when it is cold, and by itself in the warmer months.  I have more of these tunics than I care to admit, but with the flattering fit and affordable price, you can't go wrong!

Another item I reach for in my closet all year round is this pair of distressed jeans.  They have the perfect amount of stretch and are really soft.  These jeans run true to size for me.  If you don't like distressing on your jeans, you can get a non-distressed pair with the same fit here.  Also, I throw them in the dryer and they don't shrink, so that is another plus in my book!  They are priced around $40 and are sometimes on sale for even less.

There is a new closet staple in my wardrobe lately, and that is the slip on sneaker.  If you do not own a pair of these, what are you waiting for?!?  They are so comfortable, and cute too!  I wear mine with jeans all the time and as it gets warmer, I will wear them with shorts and casual dresses.  You can find slip on sneakers in so many colors and styles and there lots of options well under $50.  Both styles I am wearing above are priced under $30.

The last item that I wear ALL this time is this v-neck cami I have styled under a cardigan.  It isn't see-through and the v-neck isn't too low.  I wear these in the fall and winter under cardigans and by themselves when it is warmer.  The cami is $39 and comes in several colors.

Before I go, I wanted to share two of my go-to accessories in my closet.  The first item is tassel earrings!  They come in all colors and instantly add some extra style to whatever you are wearing.  You can find so many options under $40.  A few of my favorites are here, here and here.  The second accessory I wear all year round is the leopard scarf you see in the top photo of this post.  It only costs $19 (with free shipping) and goes with so much!  You can find it here.

These items are some of my most worn and are so easy to throw on and still look put together.  You will notice in the photo at the top of this post, I am wearing several items I talked about here.  If you have any questions about any of the basics I have shared, feel free to comment below or send me an email. Thanks so much for reading Smart Southern Style!
