Dresses are all under $100 & most are under $50!
You can order any of them on line & pick up in store to get them the same day!

Hi everyone!  Now that Christmas is over, I wanted to share some outfit ideas for any of those upcoming New Year's Eve festivities.  No matter what your plans are - a casual dinner, house party or fancy night out - I have several options for you!

With host Colleen Odegaard on the set of Charlotte Today

Outfits from left to right:
1.  Me:  Blue sequin dress here & here \\ Taupe booties
3.  LauRen Merola:  Faux leather leggings \\ Snakeskin booties \\ Similar silver top here & here
4.  Colleen Odegaard:  Similar black off the shoulder top here & here \\ Similar black jeans

And, I've got something special for you in this blog post!  In additional to traditional photos, I've also posted a TV segment above that you can watch for some outfit inspiration.  I was recently invited to be a guest on a local TV show, Charlotte Today, to talk about New Years Eve outfit ideas.  I recruited some local beauties I've met through blogging to be models and asked one of my favorite local boutiques, Page 6 Boutique, to provide outfits for all of us.  I showed a variety of looks, from casual to fancy, that work for any occasion.  There were some similar themes throughout all the looks:  shimmer, sparkle and fur!  Some of the pieces I used on the show are not available on line, but I found similar items and linked them above.

As I mentioned in the TV segment, there are multiple options to wear the pieces I styled.  The fur jackets would look great with skinny jeans and boots if a sparkly dress isn't your thing.  The sequin skirt could be dressed up with heels and the black ruffle jacket could be worn with denim for a more casual look.

If lots of sparkle isn't your thing, velvet is another fun option for New Years.   You can pair a velvet blazer with a cami and some jeans or black pants and heels for a night out.  And if you aren't sure you want to rock a velvet blazer, you can always go with a basic black blazer paired with a velvet cami like I did below.

Just about everything I've linked in this post is available to buy on line & pick up in store in case you need something last minute. I hope you now have a few new outfit ideas for your upcoming New Years Eve event.   Feel free to comment below or email me with any questions about any item I have posted here. Thanks for reading Smart Southern Style and Happy New Year!

3 WAYS TO STYLE CAMO PRINT

Similar camo scarf here and here \\ Pink bracelet

Hi everyone!  Tonight on the blog, I am talking about one of my favorite prints to wear right now, CAMO!  Now before you say "I can't wear that/don't like that/yada yada" - Hear me out!  There are several ways you can wear camo depending on what you are most comfortable with.  I have styled it three ways below, from the most subtle to the boldest look.

The first and most subtle option to incorporate some camouflage is with a scarf or a camo print in non-traditional colors.  This scarf I am wearing is a camo print, but because it is pastel colors, it is not as bold.  My scarf is not available on line, but I have linked some other camo scarves that are super cute.  Another subtle option is to wear camo shoes and I found some fun options here and here.

If you want to incorporate more than a scarf, another way to add some camo to your outfit is with a vest or jacket.  I paired my vest with a bright red shirt since it is the holiday season and I wanted to give my outfit some Christmas cheer.  But, the greens in camo print also look great with blush, plum, navy, grey or black.  The color options are endless!

Finally, if you are feeling bold and really loving the camo trend, pants are the way to go!  I love these camo pants and get so many compliments when I wear them. They are ankle length with zippers and a frayed hem.  I paired mine with a black cowl neck tunic, but they would also look good with gray or navy.  Because the pants have a bold pattern, a solid color top looks best.

I hope you have been inspired to add some camo to your wardrobe if you don't already have any.  If so, please leave a comment or send me an email to let me know!  Thanks for reading Smart Southern Style!

Holiday Home Tour - Part 2

Welcome back!  I am excited to share the second part of my Holiday Home Tour with all of you.  If you missed the first part of the tour, you can find it here.  And if you are new to Smart Southern Style, you can find out more about me here and learn a little more about the blog here.  On the first part of the tour, I shared my living room which includes my main Christmas tree, a smaller whimsical tree and some other decor.  Today, I want to share my dining room and family room.

My dining room is painted light blue and has some silver accents, so I opted for Christmas decor in those same colors.  I found these pretty pearlized trees in the same color as my wall paint which I added to my dining room table with some greenery.  If you have any extra trimmings from the bottom of your tree, those are always great to add to a table for some extra dimension.  I also found these light green wreaths that I tied to each chair with a silver wired ribbon.  You can find small wreaths like this at many home decor shops and buy the ribbon of your choice to use with them.  I tied glass ornaments to my chandelier in the same colors.  This is a really easy and affordable way to add some Christmas cheer to a dining room!

One of my favorite Christmas decor items in the dining room is my JOY wreath.  It is a focal point in the room on the bay window, but would also look great on a wall or large mirror.  You could also use standard round wreaths for the same effect.  I have a smaller light green tree in my dining room and looped some wired ribbon through it as I did my other trees. (See Part 1 of the Holiday Home Tour for more tree inspiration.)  I opted for primarily metallic ornaments in a natural theme (birds, owls, etc...) and added some greenery sprigs as a tree topper.

On my buffet, I used a tray I already had to display some smaller silver decorations, and filled a glass container with some Christmas ornaments.  These are easy and affordable ways to add some Christmas decorations by utilizing existing items in the room.

My family room is filled with all of our most personal Christmas decor, since that is the room we are in the most.  On our mantle, I use a lighted garland and add some greenery sprigs throughout.  I also included 2 red trees at each end for some height and the gift box stocking holders add some whimsy and color to the mantle.  I also added garland to the stair rail with some large red bows I had made at a craft store.

Ever since my girls were babies, we take them to see Santa every year.  I put those photos in frames and display them throughout the house at Christmas.  We all love seeing the photos each year and taking a trip down memory lane!  My girls have a small tree in this room that they decorate.  They use all of their favorite ornaments and enjoy having a tree that is all their own.

I love wooden signs with Bible verses on them and have several throughout my home.  At Christmas, I swap some of the signs out for Christmas themed signs.  One of the focal points of the family room is this large wooden sign with Isaiah 9:6 painted on it.  Celebrating the birth of Jesus is the true meaning of Christmas and this sign is a great reminder of the miracle of His birth.  I also have a smaller sign with lyrics from "Go Tell It On The Mountain" in this room as well.  You can find lots of great wooden signs on Etsy.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a little more of our home at Christmas and hopefully got some ideas for your own home.  Wishing you all the joy this season brings as we celebrate our Savior's birth!

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR - PART 1

Hi everyone and Happy Holidays!  I am excited to share the first part of my Holiday Home Tour with all of you.  If you are new around here, you can find out more about me here and learn a little more about the Smart Southern Style blog here.

I have broken up the home tour into two parts because I have a TON of Christmas decor in my home. It is my favorite time of year and I go a little crazy with the decorations.  (My husband can attest to this, as he has to bring down ALL the boxes from the attic and garage each year!)  Today, I am sharing my living room with you all, which includes our main Christmas tree, a smaller tree and some other decor.

This is Rocky.  He pretty much runs things around our house.

First up...my favorite item in the house, our Christmas tree, of course!  We get a real tree every year, because there is just something so special about a live tree and the amazing smell that goes along with it.  Some of you may disagree, as I know they can be messy and require a little more work, but I am a sucker for a real tree.  Last year I opted to buy a flocked tree for the first time.  Previously, we always had a traditional green tree, but I thought it would be a fun change.  I loved it so much, I bought one this year as well!

I went for a lime green and bright red color scheme, because I think it is whimsical and traditional at the same time.  I used 2 types of wired ribbons to loop in the tree.  If you haven't done this before, it is quite easy.  Just tuck the end of the ribbon in the bottom of the tree, and loop it about 1/3 of the way up, tuck it back in some branches, and so forth.  I also used some wired netting horizontally around the tree to give it some more dimension.  Another great way to add some texture to your tree is with greenery sprigs. I have several variations of these in my tree, as well as more on the top as the tree topper.  I love whimsical ornaments and some of my favorites are this truck and camper set, hot air balloon, and photo frame ornament, Because I have so much color on my tree, I opted for a more neutral burlap tree skirt which you can shop here.

Similar small trees here and here

Also in the living room, I have a smaller red flocked artificial tree.  I thought it was unique and a bit whimsical and fun.  Like my large tree, I looped some wired ribbon through this tree and added some greenery sprigs as a tree topper.

An easy way to add some Christmas cheer to any room is to swap out your standard pillows for some Christmas ones.  I added some on both my sofa and my side chairs.  Find some traditional pillow options herehere and here.  And for more whimsical options, look herehere and here.

Another easy way to add some festivity to your year-round decor is by adding Christmas ornaments or sprigs to a container you already have.  I have this set of bottles on my coffee table year round filled with lavender sprigs.  For Christmas, I switch those out for some holiday sprigs.  You can find these sprigs for containers or trees in many craft and home decor stores.

I hope you have enjoyed this tour of my living room decor!  Please come back on Thursday for the second half of my Holiday Home Tour where I will share my trees and decor in my dining room and family room.   Thanks for reading along!
